CED+ is a long-standing partnership between LCHS and schools in France, Denmark and the Czech Republic. The project enables students to study key aspects of the political, economic and social systems of participating countries. A series of conferences and allied visits sees the students travel to and learn more about the language and culture of each country staying with host families. Our most recent topic has been the subject of employment with in depth study taking place in Paris and Montaigu in France and Prague and Kutna Hora in the Czech Republic.

In March 2017, a group of ten students and two teachers from Lincoln Christ’s Hospital School took part in the Erasmus+ funded project, CED+. Together with ten students and two staff from a school in Denmark, Czech Republic and France, we assembled in Denmark to investigate and discuss the subject of substance abuse and its different links to social policy and education between each county. Each group travelled separately to the capital of Denmark, Copenhagen, where we all met and spent a day getting to know one another. After the day in the city, we all went to our host families where we were immersed in the Danish culture and lifestyle. We went on some excursions to learn about the abuse of substances such as tobacco, alcohol and drugs and their effects. For example, we spent a day at a Danish health centre in which we were shown the facilities; how they dealt with these issues and attended a presentation on the subject. We also attended a lecture from a former drug addict, Martin Fritzen, who told us his life story and how he broke free from the clutches of his addiction. At the Danish school or Gymnasium, we were all grouped into different teams with different aims according to our interests and abilities: the website creation team, with the aim of creating a site with all the information we had leaned; the Biology team who created posters and did experiments; the data analysis team who analysed the data collected though a questionnaire filled out by students in each school participating. At the end, all information was assembled on the website and presented to the rest of the group and a Danish high school. Our website is still online at www.cedplus.eu.
This project was life changing for many involved and taught us all a lot about something which surrounds us. It was fascinating to see how different cultures deal with such issues in different ways and gave us practical experience of the areas in which we were teamed up, be it biological experiments or data analysis.
LCHS has been part of an Erasmus+ project funded through the British Council that has been running since 1991. In the past we have been invited and hosted the following schools:
• IES Pintor Antonio Lopez, Tres Cantos, Spain
• Elde College, Sint Michielsgestel, Netherlands
• Sint-Lodewijks College, Brugge, Belgium
• Gymnasium Waldrasse, Hattingen, Germany
We are immensely proud to participate in this hugely successful partnership.
