The Dance Department

The dance department offer an exciting and varied curriculum for all students. Pupils are able to study a wide range of qualifications including BTEC, GCSE, Dance Leaders and A Level.
Dance lesson take place in a fully equipped professional studio with sprung floor, sound system, air conditioning and mirrored wall.
At KS3 students explore different dance styles as well as cultural dance. They develop performance and choreographic skills along with advancing their creativity and technical skills. Schemes of work cover the Haka, Bollywood, Contemporary and many more styles.
Students have the option to study GCSE, BTEC and Dance Leaders courses. They expand on the knowledge developed during KS3.
During GCSE and BTEC dance creative, imaginative, physical, emotional and intellectual capacities are developed.
Students learn how to perform effectively on their own and with others. They also develop knowledge and understanding of set works. Students will learn extracts from these works and analyse them for meaning and interpretation.
Students may also choose to study Dance Leadership. They will develop choreography and leadership skills and run sessions for other students.
Level 3 BTEC dance is offer during KS5. Pupils take part in an in-depth analysis of dance performances and dance companies exploring their techniques, style and influences. Pupils will learn how to perform in the style of these key practitioners. Pupils will continue to develop their performance and choreography skills. They will perform in solos, duets and quartets and choreograph for themselves and others.
A wide variety of trips and clubs are available for students.
Weekly clubs are run for students of all age groups.
The dance department often run trips to local Lincoln theatres to watch touring dance works. Trips to London are organised to watch large scale performances. Students have been to watch Edward Scissor Hands by Matthew Bourne and The Nutcracker performed at the Royal Opera House.
Workshops are run by touring companies. Previously Contemporary dance, African dance and Boys only dance workshops have been available for students to take part in.
Students have also had the opportunity to take part in cultural visits. Students have visited Latvia to experience traditional dance forms and to present performances based on English folk dance.
