The LCHS Assistant Archivist, Peter Harrod, has had one of his articles published in the June edition of The Lincolnshire Poacher, the quarterly magazine supplement of Lincolnshire Life. This article, based on Occasional Paper 39 from the Garton Archive, focuses in particular on William Harrison Crowder, the eldest of the two sons of Ann and William Ashley Crowder.

Many local people may also have seen the poignant and moving film, ‘Tell Them of Us’, shown at Stanhope Hall in Horncastle, The Collection in Lincoln and elsewhere in the county. The film is set during the Great War, and tells the story of the Crowder family during the Great War.

William Crowder was a pupil at Lincoln Grammar School, and the Garton Archive at Lincoln Christ’s Hospital School contains a number of records which provide an insight into his career at the School, brought to life in the article.

On Thursday, 25th June five of our Year 9 students took part in the final of the Slam Poetry Competition at Lincoln Drill Hall.

Charlotte Leake, Freya Hopkins, Eleanor Rawson, Megan Huntley and Elise Morrigan were all highly praised for the creativity of their poetry and excellent performances.

The LCHS finalists competed against 21 competitors from ten schools in the region.

Elise Morrigan certainly impressed the judges with her mature performance, winning the KS3 trophy and taking the overall award for all key stages. Congratulations Elise!

The Geography department is celebrating the success of their Year 9 Options Group in the Schools’ Challenge at the Lincolnshire show. The students researched what would grow well in a school garden in Lincolnshire and then compared this with school gardens in India and China. Their display included models of these gardens and work sent from Khaitan Public School in Delhi. Over 70 students from LCHS took part in preparing for the challenge and the presenting team of 9 students explained what they had learned to judges on Thursday at the show. Their understanding of the topic and excellent presentation gained them Second Place in the Secondary Schools category.
