Patrick and Ben, who train for kayak racing with Lincoln Canoe Club, were selected onto the Super Regional Squad (SRS) as part of the GB talent pathway in British Canoeing at the start of 2017. This summer, they travelled to Neerpelt, Belgium with the SRS to take part in the 37th Open Flemish Championships, their first international competition. Both boys proceeded to semi-finals and finals in several events and came away with silver medals.

Their success continued back in the UK where they competed in a National event in September. Again, both boys proceeded to finals in their events. Ben came away with a gold and 2 silvers for U16s. Patrick came away with an U16 bronze. Congratulations to you both!

We are exceptionally proud of our results this year.  60% of our students have gained a pass in English and Maths.   This is a 12% improvement on last year and a 17% improvement since 2015.  Our English results have improved by 17% in one year and our maths by 10%.

Our students have gained the grades they deserve and our staff have worked exceptionally hard to help them every step of the way.

This is a great day for LCHS - the best results for over a decade!

From the 14th-19th October, thirty-nine students and four staff took part in the annual Spanish Department trip. This year, we visited the picturesque region of Andalucía and stayed in a hotel by the beach in Torremolinos. Excursions included a trip to Malaga, the beautiful Mezquita in Córdoba and a visit around a bull ring in Ronda. Students were able to sample the regional food, use their language skills and enjoy the hot weather. Once again, the annual fancy dress competition was a success with a vast assortment of outfits ranging from flamenco dancers and bullfighters to Mario and Luigi!

On 15th-18th March 2017 a group of 32 students made a cultural visit to Paris. We visited the Musée d’Orsay which houses a wealth of artistic treasures while also being of architectural interest. We viewed the spectacular cathedral of Notre Dame, from a bateau mouche and up close, and climbed the Eiffel Tower. The next day we relaxed at the Disneyland Paris resort.

Charles Cox made the following comments about the trip:

It was one of the most enjoyable experiences that I’ve had during my time at LCHS. I really enjoyed sightseeing in Paris and visiting famous historical sights and museums. I made plenty of new friends and enjoyed visiting Disneyland with them. The highlight of my trip was either shopping down the Champs Elysées or meeting the iconic Mickey Mouse!

The 2016 LCHS annual China exchange trip took place from 18th to 29th October. Six Year 11 and 10 students and two staff took part in the trip. The LCHS students stayed with the Chinese students of our Chinese Link school - Tangshan Foreign Language School - for a week. They learned Chinese fan dancing, martial arts, paper cutting and shadow puppet making. They visited the Tangshan International Horticultural Expositionand had a day trip to the Great Wall. They stayed in Beijing for two days, visiting Tian’anmen Square, the Summer Palace and Beijing Zoo.

They had a wonderful time in China:

Jorge:“Once in a life time experience, loved every minute.”

Nick:“Easily the best school trip by miles! Definitely recommend it!”

Jo : “I had a lot of fun and would definitely go again… considering going back to Tangshan for a gap year!

A news report on the China 2016 trip has been released on the Chinese official website.
