What part will you play in this record breaking year for LCHS? What a great start to the term it has been! The summer holidays are a distant memory and we are all concentrating on our studies. Have we only been back for five weeks? I can hardly believe it! We have already achieved so much this year as a school and if things continue like this, we will have a record-breaking year all round. We started September by welcoming our new Year 7s who have settled in very well along with our new sixth formers who have enjoyed our new facilities for the past four weeks. Both sets of students have been a credit to the school and I wish them well for their studies in the year ahead. We then celebrated the achievements of our senior students at our awards evening when Mrs Burgess, Associate Director of Thompson and Richardson Ltd, came in to present the prizes. Our opening evening on 15th September was an amazing event with over 1000 people attending on the night. Our staff and students and prospective parents and students had an amazing evening. We have appointed new staff and parent governors and pass on our thanks to them for supporting our school in this way. We have been awarded the International Schools Award and we are proud to be one of the few schools in the country to have held this consistently since the programme began in 1999. Various trips and events have also taken place such as the Art department’s ‘ Rivers of the World’ trip to London, the Music department performance at the Magna Carta celebrations, the Year 7 Foundation Assembly at the cathedral, being awarded the title of ‘best school’ in the Construction Week event at the showground for our fantastic attitude, enthusiasm and behaviour, the annual Year 13 Geography field trip, groups of Year 12 and Year 13 students visiting Cambridge University, the Year 7 Creative Writing session at the museum of Lincolnshire life and the Physics trip to the Space Industry involving satellite building. We have also enjoyed welcoming students and staff from our link school in Tangshan, China and got into the spirit of things on our European Day of Languages while signing up to the National Association for Able Children in Education (NACE) to ensure we challenge our most able students to reach their full potential. In addition, we have appointed our new prefects and in particular our Head and Deputy Head boy and girl for this coming year. I look forward to working with them as they settle into their new roles. As if all of the above weren’t enough, we launched our twitter account (@LCHSed), parent mail, made further strides with our rewards system (VIVO) and are now celebrating the launch of our new website. You can see why I asked the question at the start about it only being 5 weeks since we came back to school. What an incredible start to the year! So, my questions to you at the start of this new school year are: What part will you play in this record-breaking year for LCHS? Will you grasp every opportunity presented to you to ensure you reach your potential? Will you present a positive ‘can do’ attitude, aiming for your best every day and encouraging others around you to do the same?’ Enjoy the rest of the week and never settle for second best.
