Hello everyone

We have been asked to take part in Mental Health Awareness week this week so we are taking a break from our LCHS Challenges (I don't think it could have come at a more perfect time).

Theme for this year is 'kindness' and we have a variety of different activities that you could do in order to show kindness to yourself and to others. You can chose to do as many or as little of the activities as you like and if you could send us a picture or email us what you did, that would be wonderful.

Activities:

  • Practice mindfulness by colouring mandalas, listening to meditation music or sitting outside to hear the birds.
  • Remind yourself for something that you are proud of.
  • Write down three things that you are grateful for.
  • Meditate.
  • Try something new.
  • Take a nap.
  • Write about a dream or a goal - no matter how unrealistic you think it actually is.
  • Pay a compliment to someone that you are at home with.
  • Post a nice note through a neighbour's door to let them know you are thinking of them.
  • Smile and say hello to people if you are out exercising.
  • Check in on a friend and ask how they are doing.
  • Thank a special person in your life.
  • Leave something on a friend's doorstep to brighten their day.
Below are some links to peaceful music:

How to do a simple meditation:

1. Find a quiet space. Using a cushion or chair, sit up straight but not stiff (allow your head and shoulders to rest comfortably). Place your hands on the tops of your legs with your upper arms at your sides.

2. Close your eyes, take a deep breath and relax. Feel the fall and rise of your chest and the changes in your stomach area. With each breath notice a coolness as it enters your body and a warmth as it exits. Don't control your breath, just follow the natural flow.

3. Thoughts will try to pull your attention away from the breath. Notice them but don't get distracted by them. Some people count their breaths in order to stay focused.

4. Try to sit like this for 10 minutes. You may only manage a few minutes the first time but the more you practice, the longer you will be able to sit like this.

Good luck and take care,

Ms Guyon
