Welcome to Sociology

Mrs S Staunton Head of Sociology

Sociology Course:

Sociology is about people. If you are interested in human activity, behaviour and organisation, you will be interested in Sociology. In studying the topics outlined below, the AS and A2 courses allow students to evaluate sociological theories and evidence that explain human behaviour and the workings of society.

The stand alone one-year AS qualification provides a lively and interesting introduction to Sociology as well as a sound basis for progression to full A Level and courses in Higher Education. Students will study two main themes through a series of topics shown below. The themes are:

  1. Socialisation, culture and identity.
  2. Social differentiation, power and stratification.
