Students are quickly integrated into mainstream lessons, with English language support where appropriate. They also receive additional English lessons where necessary. These lessons concentrate on language skills, subject specific vocabulary, GCSE course work and homework.

The EAL Departments offer students the opportunity to take a formal qualification in their first language where available and the pupils have had great success at GCSE, AS and A2 levels, particularly in Polish and Farsi. The iGCSE was introduced in 2008 and is offered to the majority of EAL in Year 11.
